Trauma Therapy

Stop suffering with the past
and build an amazing life.

Exposure to trauma can be devastating

Being exposed to trauma changes your life, and not always for the better. Instead of a peaceful life full of meaningful activities, it becomes a struggle to get past what happened.

Horrific reminders of the past seem to come out of nowhere, bringing flashbacks and painful memories. Sleep is plagued by nightmares, night sweats and waking up at the slightest sound.

You become angry and feel keyed up, on edge and you can’t relax. You keep everyone at a distance – you’re not sure if it’s to protect them or to protect yourself. You’re worn out. Living life in survival mode leaves you with very little energy to actually do the things that make life fun.

On another level, trauma can even change the way you see yourself, the world and the people around you. The world becomes a dangerous place, you rarely let your guard down. You struggle to trust anyone because they might hurt you, or you might become too much for them and they might leave. Some part of you wonders if this is just how you are – maybe you are damaged and have no chance to get better.

You know what you want, but how do you get there?

You wish there were some way to take charge of your life again. Some way to make peace with the past so it will leave you alone and you can move forward. You want to be able to relax and have fun again. You want to go out without thinking about how many people will be there or how easy it will be to escape. You want restful sleep and to let people into your life again without constant fear.

Therapy for trauma can help you do just that. It is not easy, but it can be worth it.

Let’s talk about how I work with trauma

When working with trauma I always start with helping you understand how trauma affects people and how you can make sense of your problems. We then build a base of coping skills – using tools discovered through scientific research to help you calm yourself, manage your anger, improve your sleep and so on.

Once you find some stability so you’re not constantly overwhelmed we can work on actively dealing with the trauma if you want. I am certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy, one of the gold standard treatments for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. This therapy helps you process what happened so you can heal from the past and recover your sense of self.

No matter what, the ultimate goal is getting your life back

Whether or not you choose to deal with the past, therapy for trauma should help free up energy that we can use to build a life that is full of meaning and purpose. We can build a life that you love to live.

I love helping people overcome trauma because I have seen first-hand how much of a difference healing the wounds of the past can make on a person’s life. It is an honor to be able to walk down that road with someone brave enough to take their life back.
